Why Authentic Content Matters

2023 is the year of authenticity, according to Emplifi (and us), meaning brands are going to rely on customer influencers across social platforms by engaging them through their own stories and experiences. It also means, stop with the filters, overly polished feeds and corporate speak.

As a brand it’s hard to balance professionalism with authenticity, it’s like trying to stay true to yourself on a first date – you want to put your best foot forward, but you also don’t want to come across as a fake. 

Here are some tips to make sure you’re keeping it real on social media:

Don’t be a poser.

We’ve all seen those Instagram accounts trying too hard to fit a certain aesthetic. You don’t want to be the social media equivalent of that guy who wears sunglasses indoors. Stick to what feels natural to you.

Be honest about your flaws.

No one’s perfect, and pretending to be is a surefire way to come across as fake. If your brand has some weaknesses, don’t be afraid to acknowledge them – it’ll make your strengths all the more impressive.

Keep it light.

We all know that person who takes themselves way too seriously. Don’t be that brand. Share funny memes or jokes that are relevant to your industry. It’s a great way to show that you’re human and relatable.

Don’t be afraid to take risks.

Trying something new can be scary, but it’s often the best way to stay authentic. Maybe your brand has never posted a TikTok before, but if you think it’s something your followers want, give it a shot.

Remember your values.

Authenticity isn’t just about being true to your brand – it’s about being true to your values. Make sure the content you’re posting aligns with what you stand for. If you’re a vegan brand, for example, don’t suddenly start promoting hamburgers – this seems like an obvious but we really wanted to drive the point home.

At the end of the day, being authentic to your brand is all about being true to yourself. Don’t be afraid to let your personality shine through – that’s what will make your brand stand out in a sea of sameness. And if all else fails, just remember that nobody’s perfect. We’re all just trying to figure it out as we go along.
