Phew…we had a packed house for our February edition of Your Biz Your Town with the effervescent, Shelley Irwin. We laughed, we ate ice cream, we learned about Grand Rapids history and how much wine to drink at a wine tasting.
Below is a brief recap of the amazing things happening coming up in Grand Rapids.
G.B. Russo & Sons
The historic G.B. Russo & Sons is celebrating 112 years of business in Grand Rapids! Since 1905, G.B. Russo & Son has been happily serving West Michigan with a marvelous selection of gourmet food, wine, craft beers, liquors and liqueurs, a delizioso delicatessen, kitchenware and more from around the world and around the corner.  We are proud to support our local community as well as be your passport to a world of good taste.
To celebrate their anniversary, the first 112 customers will receive 10% off wine for a YEAR beginning March 1st! Sign me up! They will also be doing wine-tastings every day in March as well. For a full list of events, sales and promotions head to their Facebook page.
West Michigan Center for Arts + Technology (WMCAT)
WMCAT will premiere the hour-long student-produced documentary, “Rhythm & Race: The History of African American Music in Grand Rapids.” The documentary explores how music genres have influenced social justice, advanced equity for African Americans and served as a platform for bringing awareness to injustice and racism. The premiere is free to attend, and will take place at the Urban Institute for Contemporary Arts on Tuesday, Feb. 28 at 6 p.m. Following the premiere will be a panel discussion featuring the student production team, WMCAT Teaching Artist Mike Saunders, and the founder of the Grand Rapids African American Museum and Archives, George Bayard III.
Admission is free for the event.
GVSU LGBT Alumni Chapter
The alumni chapter mission is to cultivate a community for GVSU’s LGBT alumni, students, and allies of all ages through education, networking and advocacy.
On March 8th, the chapter will host their first Coffee With Queers at 7:30 a.m. at Roots Coffee Shop. The topic will be Growing Up Queer. No matter how how identify, attendees are encouraged to come and share their story or just listen.
Please email ki*@*******gn.com to RSVP, so we can make sure to save enough seats.
