Your Biz Your Town – July Edition

Share the goods.

Your Biz Your Town is a radio segment that airs the 4th Friday of every month on The WGVU Morning Show with Shelley Irwin. The premise of the show, besides Kim exercising her radio voice, is to showcase worthy causes, organizations, business resources and networking opportunities in the West Michigan area.

Today’s guests tackled human trafficking and the importance of protecting your business’ data. We  know…two topics on either ends of the spectrum.

US Signal Company – Data Back-Up

Did you know that 60% of businesses that lose their data go out of business in 6 months. That’s right, your data is what drives your business, it is your intellectual property and yet…it is also an afterthought. We are here to tell you it shouldn’t be. Sign-up for US Signal’s upcoming Even Better Back-Up webinar and find out how you can protect this very precious asset.

YWCA: Human Trafficking Task Force

The YWCA West Central Michigan offers services that support victims of domestic and dating violence, sexual assault, child sexual abuse, and stalking, as well as prevention programs for girls 9-18 years old.
In Our Neighborhoods

Sex trafficking is defined as an act of recruiting, transporting, harboring or receiving a person through force or coercion for the purpose of sexually exploiting them into forced prostitution. Children are sexually exploited through prostitution, pornography, and sexual entertainment which is not limited by gender, race or socio-economics.

The primary factor of vulnerability for sex trafficking of minors is the child’s age; 13 years old is the average age of entry into prostitution. Children are especially susceptible due to the deception and manipulation of traffickers who recruit at schools, malls, and parks. At least 100,000 American children are being exploited through pornography or prostitution every year.

The YWCA is aware of the problem in our community and has assembled a task force of over 40 individuals to address, educate and create awareness around this very scary topic. The program is in the very beginning stages and we will continue to keep you up-to-date as more details develop.

Something on Your Mind?

National Perimenopause Month starts today. We have a LOT to say, and we’re not going to be quiet about it, especially this month, so buckle up.

We were not prepared for perimenopause, much like our periods, sex, or anything else to do with our bodies. God forbid we talk about it openly.

We were taught to be ashamed, keep quiet, and to accept that it is just part of being a woman. We reject that narrative. In fact, like @bodespeaks, we want to bring it up in every conversation.

When we normalize perimenopause and the conversation around it, we stop isolating, and we’re all more prepared.
