Creston Neighborhood Art Battle, May 13th
Creston Neighborhood Art Battle, May 13th, 6:00 p.m. at The Rez

This morning may have been my favorite #YourBizYourTown as Shelley, the guests and myself talked about corporate giving, neighborhood associations and getting involved. Yeah…I know, the getting involved is not a new theme but it sure is an important one.
I have lived in the Creston Neighborhood for close to 12 years now and I have watched the community grow, expand and improve. The Creston Neighborhood Association is credited with a lot of the change as well as the businesses such as, Sun Title, that saw the potential and took a chance by locating their company there.

Neighborhood associations greatly improve the two-way communication between the city and its residents. Through your neighborhood association you will have a clear, organized way to speak to city government with a guarantee you will be heard. You will have a tool for relating directly to both your elected city council and city service areas.
The mission of the Creston Neighborhood Association (CNA) is to organize neighborhood residents and resources to promote the social, economic and environmental health of the Creston community. They host events throughout the year to raise awareness, funds and goodwill.
On May 13th at 6:00 p.m. CNA will host the 9th Annual Art Battle at The Rez Lounge off of Plainfield. The event brings together local artists that create art while you watch with the pieces being auctioned off at the end of the night. Don’t miss the chance to be a part of this unique event.

7th Annual West Side Clean Up
7th Annual West Side Clean Up

Just down the street from 834 offices, a little known company resides. Perhaps you have heard of them – Rockford Construction. I have always admired this company as they make it their mission to give back to the community without raising a fuss or turning a spotlight on themselves. They are the epitome of corporate giving. They do it for the good of the community, not their brand.
On Saturday May 2nd, along with other West side residents and businesses, they will participate in the 7th Annual West Side Community Clean Up. Those interested in beautifying our the West side will meet at St. Mary’s Church at 8:30 a.m. There will be a lunch and great swag after the clean up for all volunteers! All ages welcome. You will be walking around outside so dress for success! Tennis shoes or closed toed shoes recommended. Don’t forget a rain jacket if the weather is crummy.

Something on Your Mind?

Running 8THIRTYFOUR on EOS has allowed our team to find consistency in what we do and given us a framework to hold each other accountable.

It's why @bodespeaks highlighted it in her latest @fastcompany contribution.

We put everything business owners, employees, and educators told us on the wall, and guess what... yeah, some of it was mean.

The point is, everyone is saying it about each other, not to each other, and nothing is getting fixed that way.

Thanks to everyone who showed up to have the Uncomfortable Conversation on the skills crisis, and whether you were there or not, let us know what the next one should be.

Defense and manufacturing run on precision, protocols, and deadlines. When a team miscommunicates... things slip, and the cost adds up.

Kim will be at the Michigan Defense Expo in Detroit on May 13 to talk about the Hard Cost of Soft Skills (or as we call them, survival skills) and what we can all do about it.

@bodespeaks will be talking to @sheleadssocietymi on May 21 about Big Deal Energyâ„¢ and what it means to own what makes you - you.

Don't let mediocre men tell you you're too much. That's on them.

Come to the talk, it'll be fun. Link in bio.
We always say work smarter, which means bringing in expertise you don't have and hiring people who make your team more complete.

That's what Kim Bode said in a recent @fastcompany article on building sustainability into your business.
