SEO Quick Wins – 5 Steps to Take Today

A green search bar is superimposed over a green background.

Optimizing your digital presence for search engines is no small feat. You need a completely responsive website that engages your audience, and you need a library unique and valuable content. Neither of these is something that happens overnight, or at little expense.

That being said, here are 5 ‘quick wins’ to get a handle on your SEO today:

Claim and optimize your Google Business Listing

Local searches are more prominent than ever, and that’s not going to change any time soon. Often times, Google Business results are showing up even above the paid ads. So, claim your page, fill out all of the information, link your social profiles, and add some photos. (Hint: your name, address, and phone number should match what’s listed on your website)

Create an XML sitemap & Setup Google Webmaster Tools

This tells Google what pages are on your site. Set up a Google Webmaster Tools account to submit this sitemap and look for any major issues with your site.

Make sure Google is actually crawling your site

If that’s not the case, all of your efforts won’t make a difference anyways. With that shiny new Google Webmasters Tools account, hit Fetch as Google.

Download and run Screaming Frog

Though the free version of this tool limits the amount of pages that it’ll crawl at a time, it’s enough to give you a good idea of how well your site is optimized. Check out your page titles, descriptions, H1/H2 tags, and alt tags to see if they are populated, unique, and relevant to what you want to rank for. These are all must-haves for any site.

Claim and populate all of your profiles

Don’t have time to be active on Twitter? That’s fine, claim the profile anyways, and fill it out with relevant information. You need to be everywhere your audience is, in the case that they want to engage with you. Plus, it’s another instance of your name, address, phone number, and website URL out there on the interwebs.
