Every wake up and think, crap! Where did my week go?
ShelleyWell thatĀ happened to us over at 834…you may have noticed…or not (shame on you then) that we neglected to post a recap from this month’s Your Biz Your Town. Well…it’s never too late to talk about great organizations, doing phenomenal things in our community.
In no particular order…here are the guests (and the link) to last week’s #YourBizYourTown
BISSELL Pet Foundation and the Howl-O-Ween Hoof & Woof
The BISSELL Pet Foundation exists to assist animal welfare organizations. This includes helping to reduce the number of animals in shelters and rescues through pet adoption, spay/neuter programs, microchipping and foster care.
They give homeless pets the chance they deserve. I don’t think it gets much more noble than that. Kudos to our fellow animal loving friends.
1406586946Want to help out? Then save-the-date for the Howl-O-Ween Hoof & Woof on October 19th, 12:00 – 3:00 p.m. at Manhattan Park in East Grand Rapids.
The BISSELL Howl-O-Ween Hoof and Woof is a fun-filled day for families and their two- and four-legged kids.* Entrance to the event isĀ free. Games, food and activities can be enjoyed at family-friendly prices.
In the spirit of a good, old-fashioned fall carnival, you will find face painting, a cake walk, games – many of which includeĀ  your dog – and prizes. You won’t want to miss a walk with your dog along the ā€œTrick-or-Treat Trailā€ in your Halloween costume — fill up your candy bag and bring your pooch along to get a treat for performing his favorite trick!Ā If your pup likes to dress up too, there will be prizes awarded for best dog costumes. There will also be an awesome raffle prize.
You’ll get hungry having this much fun! We’ll be sure to have hotdogs, popcorn, caramel corn, caramel apples, ice cream and more. YUM!
Responsible Fathers
This new and incredibly important nonprofit needs the community’s support. Check out www.responsiblefathers.org and get involved!
Responsible Fathers Foundation is a facilitator of educational, guidance, and counseling services provided by a network of organizations and professionals focused to helping fathers re-engage and/or remain committed to and involved in their children’s lives.
Fathers play a significant role in raising healthy children. Today, far too many fathers choose to not participate in their children’s lives. Regardless of the reason, fathers need to realize that it’s the wrong choice. An involved responsible father is critical to the overall development and wellbeing of their children.
Responsible Fathers Foundation believes it is imperative for theĀ well-being of children, fathers, and our communitiesĀ that the increasing trend of fatherless children be stopped.

Something on Your Mind?

If you ever need proof that personal brand matters...Kim got to see the @nasaartemis II launch in person as a direct result of her Big Deal Energyā„¢.

You need to work hard, show up authentically, and provide value. That was her message to a room full of students and young professionals at @western_michigan_pmi's theProject Collegiate Competition.

The Big Deal Energyā„¢ Workshop is on June 23. Register at the link in bio.
Employers think Gen Z is lazy, entitled, and will quit the second things get hard. That perception is keeping you out of the room before you ever get a chance to prove otherwise.

The good news is, you can flip the script, but it will take some serious work and a personal brand, or as Kim Bode refers to it: Big Deal Energyā„¢.

Kim is speaking at theProjectā„¢ Collegiate Event, hosted by the Project Management Institute Western Michigan Chapter on April 14. She'll cover how to build a personal brand that actually sounds like you (not ChatGPT) and how you can show your value through social, content and networking.

No one talks about how lonely it is to own a business. The tough decisions land on you, the business doesn't pause when you need a break, and nobody - not your employees or your spouse - really gets it.

If you know a business owner, tell them they're doing a good job. It matters more than you know.
The growth stage is the hardest part of building a business.

Kim was recently quoted in @corpmagazine on what she sees running the Women's Entrepreneurial Fellowship: women who have built something, survived the hardest part, and are still doing everything themselves. The natural tendency to be humble and attached to their work creates unique business challenges for women; they put up walls because they can't be vulnerable.

Meanwhile, when a woman CEO needs growth capital, she compiles three years of tax returns before a bank will schedule a meeting, while her male competitor closes the same deal over drinks.

When women have access to the right resources, they grow and invest back. Full article at the link in bio.
