Living By Our Core Values

Share the goods.

Kaylee sits at a desk behind a laptop computer. She is wearing a black and white patterned dress and smiling.

Hi, I’m Kaylee Miracle. My title here at 8THIRTYFOUR is Executive Assistant. I keep Kim’s calendar, inbox, and travel plans running smooth. Some days it feels less like administration work and more like herding eight dogs, literally. Somehow everything gets where it needs to go, mostly with treats and bribery.

Anyone can put values on a wall. What matters is whether people actually live by them. Three weeks in and I can already see how these core values fit into everyday operations. Here is what each core value means to me, and how I execute it through my daily work.

We are Scrappy

“We bring our what-it-takes mentality to everything we do.”

I relate to this core value because I am willing to do whatever it takes to figure out issues. I also will do anything to protect and stand by the people I am loyal to. You see this in my everyday life with my behaviors and how I speak to the people around me. You would see me asking questions to understand more and also checking in on the people that matter the most to me.

We Put You First

“We set aside egos and do what is best for the whole.”

Being a college athlete, I understand and relate to this on a deeper level. The way I go through life is always knowing that my actions affect the people around me more than myself. It is always a constant for me. I want others to succeed just as bad as I do.

We are Not Assholes

“We hold ourselves accountable and embrace healthy conflict.”

This might be my favorite core value. One, I love swearing and two, I love being blunt. When things are blunt and worded exactly how they are meant to be, it makes life easier because everyone understands what is expected.

We Fix It

“If it isn’t working, we fearlessly problem solve and find a better, simpler way.”

I know and understand that people make mistakes and there is no way around that. The way we go about it later, after the mistake, matters more than the actual mistake. I am always quick to fix whatever went wrong quickly and apologetically.

We Know our Shit

“We are committed to learning our craft, our clients’ industries and new tech/tools.”

Without the experience in the field of communications, I have had to learn all aspects of integrated communications and how they fit together. Given my background as a high school physical education teacher, I have had to manage many different grade levels and adapt to each student’s needs.  I’m excited to bring my ability to navigate complex situations to 8THIRTYFOUR and apply it from day one in my new role.

We Work Smarter

“We use our team, process, and tools to grow and deliver results.”

I am always looking for a way to work smarter and not harder. If something can lessen a headache, let’s do it.

One week in, and it’s already clear these aren’t just values on a wall they are how this team operates on a day-to-day basis. I’m grateful to be surrounded by people who execute these principles in their everyday work. Here’s to the next week, and many more after that.

Something on Your Mind?

This is why we do what we do. Most women business owners are left to navigate business ownership alone, juggling hiring, cash flow, and strategy while trying to keep the lights on. It’s overwhelming and it’s lonely.

The Women’s Entrepreneurial Fellowship is designed to change that. It’s an intentionally small cohort because real support doesn’t happen in a crowded room. Participants will receive the support they’ve been missing, and the tools, knowledge, and networks needed to scale - all guided by people who have built and grown businesses themselves.

If you’re a second-stage business owner ready to grow, this program is for you. Applications close on September 15.

Perimenopause results in a brutal shift in energy, productivity, motivation, and mental clarity. We are leading companies, people, and navigating and holding up the world while the general public gets the ‘ick’ at the mention of our bodies, physicians hand out antidepressants as a solution, and there is little to no education or awareness on the subject.

Combine the two and you get our next Uncomfortable Conversation: The Pause, presented in partnership with the SBAM Women’s Business Council.

The Women's Entrepreneurial Fellowship supports Michigan's established women business owners with the resources, insight, and connections it takes to break through growth barriers and scale with confidence. Through the next 9 months the walls will come down, challenges become shared-problem solving, and wins become everyone's celebration.

Ready for what is next? Applications are due by September 15th. Link in bio.
